In december 2017, Swiss government decided to finally renew the independant country's fighter jet fleet. Last Friday, the 23rd of March 2018, the process began as the government made a first tender to chose a fighter jet. This decision as to be either accepted by the Parlement in 2019 and by referendum between 2019 and 2020.
Waiting for the approval of both sides, Switzerland government reinforced their position to renew aerial fleet, as the Federal Department said: "Waive the renewal of way to protect his aerial territory isn't a practicable option".
Swiss already chose the fighter jet they pre-selected if citizen allows them to make this investment. They chose the Grippen from Swedish company Saab, the Rafale from French society Dassault Aviation, the European jet the Eurofight manufactured by Airbus and the two American jets: the F/A18 Super Hornet from Boeing and the F-35A from Lockheed.
