2017, Big year for French Airports

It has been a record year for French airports. Number of passengers raised of 5% for Lyon airport, 8% for Nantes airport and +80% for Bordeaux since 2009.

10 million passengers for Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport


The 19th of September, Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport reach 10millions passenger during 2017. It's a new record for the Lyon airport which beat the one of last year that was 9.5 million passengers. This growth is materialized by the opening of the new Terminal 1B f 70 000m² that double the total area of the airport. This year has also seen the airport open 10 new routes.

In 2018, the airport plan is to open numerous new destinations. Transavia will open lines to Palerma, Djerba, Malaga and Catania. EasyJet will open lines to Fuereventura, Tel Aviv and Rennes and finally Voltea will arrive during Spring into the French airport with lines that go to Alicante, Cagliari, Majorqua and Palerma. Vinci Airports made a prevision of 15millions passengers for 2018.

This raise of passenger is supported by international flights and low cost companies that represent one quarter of the total flights with last airlines company arrived that is WizzAir. The south France airport has an incredible raise of plus 80% from 2009 to 2017. In 2017 the airport opened 14 new routes. As said before, this raise is due to low cost airlines, Volotea made a 48% growth, Ryanair +26%, and EasyJet is already the second most important airlines of the airport and will build a base into it. Plans for 2018 are to open 7 new routes including one that goes to Tel Aviv.

The 20th of November, the Nantes airport passed the 5 million passengers point, it represents a growth of 14% following the 8% last year. As Bordeaux, this growth is mostly due to low cost airlines but also European flights. In 2017 three new airlines opened, British Airways, Luthensa ad Chalair.
