Updated: Apr 5, 2018

As we announced last month, during the Doha International Maritime Defense Exhibition, Qatar made a command for 28 NH90 from NH Industries. Good point for the European export especially French one. As declared French Armed Forces Minister, Florence Parly:

“The Qatari decision further strengthens the strategic and military partnership between our two countries and constitutes a further export success for France,”

This contract for the 28 helicopters from NH Industries is about three billion euros for the helicopter manufacturing company that is held by French company Airbus Helicopter (62,5%), the Italian Leonardo (32%) and Fokker(5,5%).

Latest news is that Safran the french engines' manufacturer had been chosen to equipped the 28 aircraft. French company had a competitive advantage over the main competitor that was GE because Safran is already over the 80% of the total NH90 over the world. Safran Helicopter Engine will be the engine supplier and Qatar chose the RTM322-01/9A model to be on their fleet. This model has the particularity that it has a 7% power increase compared to the baseline RTM322-01/9variant. This increase allows the aircraft and engines to operate in hotter and higher condition.

The engines will be manufactured at Bordes and will be delivered at Marignane for final assembly for tactic aircraft and into Leonardo's facilities in Venise-Tessera plant for embedded version. This specific model is specially designed for military helicopter up to 15tonnes and go to 2100/2600shp.
