The A350-900ULR completed maiden flight

Before the end of 2018, it will be possible to join New York from Singapore without any stop during a 20 hours flight. It represents a 20h flight and this performance goes to the ultra long range A350-900ULR from European aircraft manufacturer Airbus.

First questions that come to our mind are: How passengers will flight comfortably into a plane during 20h? How a plane can fly during 20h without a refill stop?

It's the longest flight by 3 hours regarding the Qantas 787 flight from Perth to London performed by a Boeing's airplane. The aircraft is powered by Rolls-Royce and its Rolls-Royce Trent XWB and this 9.700 nautical miles (around 17.965km) flight is possible because the plane is carrying 24.000 liters of kerosene more than a plane can usually carry. It makes a total of 165.00 liters of fuel. To carry it, the plane must have new free space gain, it comes from the aircraft wings. To be able to handle it, the aircraft has to lose weight and this is possible thanks to innovative composite material that is part of the airplane.

About comfort, the plane is equipped with sophisticated LED lighting, with almost vertical sidewalls and a low noise level that allows passenger to really rest during flight and improve passenger experience.

"The A350 is a clean-sheet design that has been designed for those long-range flights," Florent Petteni, Airbus' aircraft interiors marketing director for the A350

Singapore Airlines perform this flight and will announce the A350-900URL's configuration sometimes soon, but we're expecting fewer more than the 253 seats that the standard A350-900 has. The Asian airlines ordered 67 A350 family aircraft.

Next innovation that will be the expected is the sleeping quarter for passenger that Airbus have planned to put into its long range and ultra long range planes in collaboration with Zodiac aerospace.
